Common Sense Media has just published a list of some great books and movies perfect for our young learners about empathy. "Teaching kids character strengths and life skills such as empathy is one of the most important jobs of being a parent. Empathic kids can put themselves in someone else's shoes. It also allows them to develop other caring character strengths, such as compassion and gratitude. These great books for all ages help make it easier by celebrating friendship, difference, and the importance of caring for one another. For even more empathy-building media picks, just check these movies and TV shows that promote empathy." Click here for a great list. We have many of these available for checkout in our libraries.
3rd Grade Students at Washington School recently worked as teams to solve clues and "Breakout". Breakout sessions promote collaboration, problem solving, and communication skills, which are necessary for success in society. A few 3rd graders then took the lesson and worked with 1st graders. Here are some great shots!
