I have started my Digital Citizenship lessons with students. Each lesson takes approximately 3 (15 minute) sessions. This is what your child(ren) are learning:
K: When using technology, they must be by an adult. In addition we’ve been talking about Red, Yellow and Green Sites. 1: What email is and how it is like a letter. We will send one to the teachers the next time we meet. 2: They are learning what personal information is and what is appropriate to share so as not to create a digital trail. 3: They are comparing bullying to cyberbullying and how to protect themselves from both. 4: How images are “photoshopped” using technology and then used in the media. 5: How to create a positive online community. Students will be creating a pledge about responsible digital citizenship and behavior. I just got this in my mailbox. The topics covered address 2 issues we face at school and try to educate students about. Here are the links to discussing and dealing with Cyberbullying and Music Streaming Services. Our goal is to educate our children and keep them safe.
